2016考研英语：核心词汇(51)

常规单词积累一定要集中在2016考研英语复习的前期，否则到了复习后期无论是2016考研英语阅读的复习还是翻译的复习，都会遇到困难。同时，单词记忆不能只记中文释义，要掌握其常见用法、固定搭配，并且在能力范围内利用词根触类旁通。2016考研英语对于词汇的考查主要体现在考生“同义替换”的能力上，也就是考查考生对于语言多样性的把握，所以考生在背单词的时候一定要掌握单词的同义词。

speculate

vi.思索;推测 v.投机;思索，推测

【例】The IMF is encouraging people to speculate with other people’s money.国际货币基金组织鼓励人们用别人的钱做投机买卖。

【同义替换】ponder, reflect; guess, conjecture, assume

【派生】speculative a.思索的;投机的 speculation n.思索，投机

proclaim

v.宣告;表明

【例】His accent proclaimed him a Scot.他的口音表明他是苏格兰人。

【构词】pro-(前)+ claim(呼喊)→在前面大叫→宣告，表明

【同义替换】declare, announce, pronounce; indicate, demonstrate, manifest

【派生】proclamation n.宣布;表明

【真题】Hofstadter says our country’s educational system is in the grips of people who “joyfully and militantly proclaim their hostility to intellect and their eagerness to identify with children who show the least intellectual promise.”

Hofstadter认为我们的教育制度掌握在这样一些人手中，“他们热烈而武断地宣称他们对学识的憎恶，同时竭力表明他们认同那些在学识方面最没有潜力的孩子。”

【例】The changes that have taken place in air travel during the last sixty years would have seemed completely impossible to even the most brilliant scientist at the turn of the 19th century.

过去六十年中航空旅行发生的变化，在19世纪之交，哪怕是对最杰出的科学家来说，似乎都完全不可能发生。
